Most of my landscape work starts a few miles from home. The fields around Solihull Riding Club and Woodhouse Farm at Catherine-de-Barnes are where I learn the light: frost on a winter morning, mist lying low at sunrise, a mackerel sky over open pasture.

Further afield, I keep going back to the Cornish coast, walking the coast path from St Ives to Zennor, watching the sun go down over Porthmeor Beach and crossing the causeway to St Michael's Mount at low tide. When I can get to bigger country, it's Snowdon in Eryri, the moorland of the Peak District, the Wye Valley from Symonds Yat Rock and the lochs around Fort William. Most of these were taken on foot, early in the day, when the light is low and the paths are empty.
